The team was made up by Jocelyn Gary, Jan Boitz, Matt Bedrin, Marley and Dylan.
We left Portland the evening of 2/12 and made the haul to the Dutchman Flat Sno-park in Central Oregon. With a 1:00am arrival it was nice to be able to pop up the camper and crawl into bed. Saturday brought a 6 mile snowmobile ride into our camp at the base of Ball Butte. We set up camp, dug out the outhouse and waited for the skies to clear. Our hope was to summit Broken Top and possibly South Sister over the three day weekend. We awoke Sunday morning to a foot of much needed snow and skies as thick as stew. We enjoyed the new powder on Ball Butte and began accepting the fact that a summit was not in the cards on this trip. Jocelyn was the first up on Monday morning and what a beautiful morning it was. After a round of sunrise photos of the recently hidden scenery we decided to break camp, haul out, and regroup to make an attempt on Mt. Bachelor. Thankfully, Mt. Bachelor ski resort and the U.S. Forest decided to repeal their no uphill traffic policy and allow backcountry users a route to the summit. A 2.5 hour skin put us on the sunny summit. More photos and great turns back to the car. What a President’s Day weekend. Thanks Team.
