Mt.St. Helens Claims Her Role as Volcano #1

The skiing part of Skiing Cascadia got underway January 27, 2010.
With sunshine in the forecast, Jocelyn Gary, John Waller, Noah Greenwald, Dylan, Marley and Matt Bedrin, left the comforts of their warm beds at 1:30 am to travel to the Marble Mountain Sno-park. Leaving the parking lot at 5:00am the team began the climb for the crater rim. Traveling through the woods by headlamp, the team was greeted by a beautiful sunrise just above timberline.  Urged on by the beautiful surroundings, the team reached the crater rim just before 2:00 pm.  The windy summit limited our visit to taking photos and gearing up for the descent.   The ride down was awesome with great snow, sunshine and lots of features to play on.   With wobbly legs and huge grins the team made it safely back to the truck at 5:00pm.  A very long day, but worth every second.  Thank you Loowit (St. Helens native name) for a safe visit.  Thank you Wend Magazing, The Center for Biological Diversity, The Green Drop Garage, and Oregon Mountain Community for supporting Skiing Cascadia.  And an extra special thanks to Jocelyn, John, Noah, and the Bobs for an unforgettable day.  1 down 39 to go.

Stay tuned for some video footage of the adventure…

  1. Wow — looks like a wonderful day on peak #1. The Bobs (and humans) are so cute. I’m sorry for Bear that he was not there!
